ASSOCIATE, ADVISORY SERVICES (LONDON, UK)

POSITION OVERVIEW

We are looking to hire a new Associate, Advisory Services, who will play a key role in delivering on our mission by supporting consulting projects and driving operational effectiveness. Joining a dynamic and fast-growing social enterprise, the successful candidate will bring an entrepreneurial and collaborative disposition. 

Your primary focus will be supporting client projects, including through research, analysis, stakeholder interviews, and preparing deliverables. 

The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering high-impact consulting engagements that help companies identify and address human rights risks, strengthen governance and due diligence systems, and align their strategies with emerging regulatory expectations and international standards. As part of a dynamic and fast-growing social enterprise, the successful candidate will bring strong project execution experience along with an entrepreneurial and collaborative approach. Working in a rapidly evolving field, the role offers the chance to partner with some of the world’s most influential companies to help advance responsible business practices and positive social impact. 

The Associate role is a full-time position based in London, UK. The role may require up to 20% travel for field work related to projects. Please note that applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United Kingdom at the time of application. We are unable to sponsor or transfer work visas for this position. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Associate will primarily work on project delivery and client engagements. Responsibilities include: 

  • Conducting research and analysis, including on industry best practice, regulatory developments, and stakeholder expectations in human rights, responsible technology, sustainability, and responsible supply chains.
  • Execute human rights and environmental due diligence processes, including human rights impact assessments (HRIAs), risk assessments, and governance reviews.
  • Support clients in aligning their strategies with international frameworks and emerging regulations, including the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights, the EU Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD), the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), and other relevant legislation and reporting standards.
  • Conduct corporate client, stakeholder and rightsholder engagement, including interviews, consultations, and field research.
  • Support the preparation and presentation of high-quality client deliverables, including reports, workshops, and executive briefings.
  • Track emerging regulatory developments, corporate best practices, and industry trends relevant to responsible business and contribute to Article one’s research excellence, communications, and thought leadership.
  • Ensure high standards of analytical rigor, technical expertise, methodological integrity, and ethical engagement in all project activities.
  • Plan and coordinate virtual and in-person workshops and other events, as well as represent Article One at external events.

QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate must be passionate about advancing responsible business practices and will bring strong research, analytical, and communication skills.

Preferred qualifications include: 

  • 3-5 years of relevant professional experience in business and human rights, responsible technology, sustainability, responsible supply chains, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of international frameworks and regulatory developments related to responsible business (e.g., UNGPs, OECD Guidelines, CSDDD, CSRD, Modern Slavery legislation, Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosure, Task Force on Nature-related Financial Disclosure, Global Reporting Initiative Standards).
  • Strong research and analytical skills, including the ability to synthesize complex information and develop clear insights.
  • Excellent writing, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced consulting environment
  • Ability to undertake business travel about 20% of the time, including international travel.
  • Bachelor’s or equivalent degree, with an advanced degree, preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, high ethical standards, passion for driving responsible business practices, and a humble, collaborative, and empathetic approach to engagement with diverse stakeholders across sectors and geographies.
